active or passive?

they say that when you get Father Arcilla for History.. you might as well commit suicide.

i've heard stories of how hard it is to actually get really high marks if he's your History 165 professor..

fortunately (or is it unfortunately.?).. my random number was realllllllly good. downright impeccable. tooo good to be truuuue.

547.

yech. haha.

so, i hade to embrace the inevitable. Arcilla, here i come, sabi ko nga :)

i had been enjoying my histo classes.. surprisingly. i guess i have to applaud the Padre for making history appear as if it were happening in the present. seriously.
sometimes i feel that what he narrates actually happened in front of his eyes! hahaha. . kinda helps that he calls us and the other faculty of history (unfortunately) "poor ignorant souls"... apparently for not having any knowledge whatsoever of reading/speaking/understanding SPANISH. hahahahaa.

anyhow, what made me write in my blog after..hm... around 50 years?!? it was what father stated in class awhile ago.

Our topic is the coming of the europeans in the Philippines. He said ".what the Spaniards did.. was to re-organize our lives.. in space and time.."
i had no qualms with this statement...what he said after made me a tad bit anxious.

He said that the re-organization was something very positive. our ancestors (indigenous peoples) were nomadic.. that they spend all their waking hours looking for food.. then they slept... then looked for food again. this very much "amazing" re-organization actually provided our ancestors with what Padre called "leisure time"... in his own words, "re-organization.. in order to enjoy life."

maybe it's just me. maybe im just too into "proper" development.

my reaction to that statement?

who's to say how to enjoy life? is there a standard? seems like Eurocentrism is kicking in again.

i guess it's the same with my stand on indigenous peoples and development/modernization... IPs must be the ones to decide on how, what, when, where modernity will trickle in their respective tribes. NOTE: their culture is at stake.

haaay sorry. got toooo emotional i guess. probably it's the DS thingy kicking in nga. becoming a way of life i suppose? :)

==================================

akala ko nung una
may bukas ang ganito.

mabuti pang umiwas
pero salamat na rin at nagtagpo :)
