funny how things are
I like you calm, as if you were absent,
and you hear me far-off, and my voice does not touch you.
It seems that your eyelids have taken to flying:
it seems that a kiss has sealed up your mouth.
Since all these things are filled with my spirit,
you come from things, filled with my spirit.
You appear as my soul, as the butterfly’s dreaming,
and you appear as Sadness’s word.
I like you calm, as if you were distant,
you are a moaning, a butterfly’s cooing.
You hear me far-off, my voice does not reach you.
Let me be calmed, then, calmed by your silence.
Let me commune, then, commune with your silence,
clear as a light, and pure as a ring.
You are like night, calmed, constellated.
Your silence is star-like, as distant, as true.
I like you calm, as if you were absent:
distant and saddened, as if you were dead.
One word at that moment, a smile, is sufficient.
And I thrill, then, I thrill: that it cannot be so.

mock long test in DS 101 tomorrow! :) my gulay. weird bang sabihin na im actually enjoying my studying of growth theory, marginal propensity to save, reproducible capital, neoclassical, structuralist.. weh. hahaha :) tama nga yung sabi ni sir leland, you seem to be "intelligent" since you talk about such serious stuff with very technical sounding words. hahaha. wala lang. talk to me one of these days about poverty, third world countries, dev't economics and what have you's. :)

it's christmas but people haven't been feeling the "spirit". at least majority of those i know. . i guess there has been so much hullabaloo of our politicians and also of this growing despair over our situation in the country. much has to be done.. we can't simply give up and let frustration win. sabi nga ni sir, "we are out to save the world.. which presumes that the world can be saved, that a new world can be made."

"despite all your choices and despite all your best intentions, fate wins anyway."

Ahahaha...Neruda fan ka rin pala? This one's also one of my favorites :)
I also have his "20 Love Songs and a Song of Despair" and "100 Love Sonnets" (both are bilingual editions, btw). Wanna borrow and swap books? ;)
Btw, check out this other Neruda poem (from "20 Love Songs and a Song of Despair"). From what I've been reading so far in your blog, sobrang bagay na bagay sa 'yo to ;)
Poema 18: Aqui Te Amo (in English)
Happy reading! :D
ah.. Here I love you.. i've read that poem but .. reading it again brought out the "essence" of the poem.
winner ang lines na:
Here i love you and the horizon hides you in vain. i love you still among these cold things.
pero the best ang:
The piers sadden when the afternoon moors there. My life grows tired, hungry to no purpose. I love what i do not have. You are so far.
oh boy. hahahaha
