3days of non-stop stuff!

lotsa things happening these days! so here's a random and hopefully quick overview..

1) May 21 - D-day!! - the SK Tugtugan '05 was a success!! lotsa lotsa people came and watched the bands rock and battle it out! i must say, this year's batch was absolutely AWESOME. galing nilang lahat! there were even people from Zobel who joined! Bulusan was there (the sophomore, ay incoming junior na pala, na band na nag play nung "I Love La Salle") and David Ambat was also present (just recently joined a band). he even asked me "anong ginagawa mo dito?" i quickly replied "SK ako e.." haha. small world ano?

speaking of small world, let me veer away from the current topic and relay a funny thing that happened nung battle.

when i was getting the food for the judges, the people working for BeatBox and for us, i noticed this guy standing at the back of the tennis court. okay, so he looked vaguely familiar. he looked at me too as if reading my mind. i instinctively glanced away but allowed myself to look at him from time to time since i couldn't remember where i met or saw this guy.

after a good 10 or so minutes, i remembered that my kagawad Bianca showed me the picture of her boyfriend. it was then that i smiled and secretly congratulated myself for proving myself wrong that i am truly becoming uliyanin.

anyhow, 2 hours later, Bianx and I got to chat while we were fixing the sandwiches and the juice for the band who just finished playing. she asked me if she could get a few sandwiches for her friends. i replied "uy.. baka boyfriend." and then showed a mischievous smile. tapos she told me that her boyfriend knew me. bianx said "pinsan daw siya ng classmate mo from zobel..".. i was like.. what?!?,.... i started to think again.. then i asked her "anong apelyido?".. sabi nya "yung nag debut daw sa manila pen.. blanco.." .. DING DING DING!! we have a winner! haha.. "ay si karyl!!" i said..

tapos i started saying "ay shux oo nga pala!! siya si jon!! (although alam ko na ng matagal na name ng bf ng kagawad ko jon.. sheesh.) sbi nga ni karyl na mrming nagka- crush sa knya nung debut nya".. haayayay........ i am uliyanin. ;p

12 bands rocked the covered tennis court that Saturday night! different musical genres were covered. some opted for alternative, others went for reggae, still others tried to copy the sound of evanescence, spongecola, mayonnaise, 6 cycle mind, dishwalla... etc. my kagawad Guilbert and I were the emcees for the night. we were the ones interviewing the bands and we sure met a lot of different people. a lot of the bands opted to play the songs they composed and i can honestly say that they were pretty good. some of the vocalists sure got my vote! one of them even had a voice similar to Alex Band. galeng ng band nila! in fact they won!:D even they couldnt believe it! ;p

the prizes at stake this year is almost the same as last year's. last year, the 1st and 2nd placers got to play in a concert of Parokya ni Edgar. they also had a cash prize and a trophy. the great thing that happened last year was that someone approached the 1st placer band (Kindness Drops) and invited them to play in Padi's point. the 2nd placer band (Kinky Hooters.. i think you all know this band. i believe they won sa Red horse Muziklaban.. they've gone pro na rin ata e. you guys should have heard their rendition of "Megalomaniac" ... it was as if Brandon Boyd and the whole band suddenly appeared out of nowhere!!! they were THAT good!) was also offered something but i dont know the details. talk about amazing luck! :D i was really happy for both of them!

the thing is, i heard na hindi na muna sila (1st placer band) magtutuloy as a professional band. the vocalist told me na ibang iba daw tlga pag andun na. they auditioned daw e. pero sabi nya, it was all right since the band learned from their experience.

this year, we gave the same prize: a chance to be the front act of a popular band, cash prize and trophy. an additional prize came at the last minute when someone offered to be a sponsor and told us that he just opened a rehearsal studio and wanted the first placer to have a free 5-hour session!! wow!! (2oopesos an hour kasi so.. imagine.. 1000pesos din ang natipid mO!) i was blown away since last year someone also came over and plugged a T.V. station that would be able to feature pinoy bands only. he offered the winning band a free MTV! yun nga lang i havnt heard from that guy ever since but still!! each year may surprise na yata especially for this event! :D and i couldnt help but smile at God's amazing Plan.

the concert will be this July. we (SK) havent decided yet what band to get. it's either Bamboo, Mayo or Spongecola. im just excited since i know that the bands na magpe-play na front act will surely be offered something BIGGER. it's all about reaching for something beyond your grasp. and we are only so happy that we are able to help them realize their dreams.

(i was able to go home at around 10 sumthing after cleaning the place with my kagawads. the battle of the bands ended at around 9:20pm. was able to sleep at around 11 or 12pm. i was busy from 9am until the event itself. we were the ones who set up the chairs and the ones to stack them up after the event. the exhaustion was all worth it. there were even parents watching! ;p)

(sang 2 songs since wla kaming makuhang pwede mag intermission. i sang "Stay" while playing the guitar after the 6th band played. and then while the judges were tallying the scores, my kagawad Ben played the guitar while i sang "Especially for You". after that, may nag request na kantahin ko "Forevermore" ng Side A while playing the guitar. sbi ko wala akong practice but i knew how to play and sing it.. hahah;p sbi ni Ben parang nag concert na daw ako wahaha;p)


2) May 22 - Fiesta!! - after being pooped out from last night's rendezvous, i was awakened from my peaceful slumber by my mom at exactly 8:25 in the morning. somebody wanted to talk to me and it was an emergency. i took the phone and it was Kuya Dave. turns out that the sisters didnt want to sing during the 9:30am mass. he called people na pero walang ibang pwede. so i immediately said yes. he was repeatedly asking if it was all right with me and i replied that it was okay. (he did this a few weeks ago at around the same time also but it's okay. i understand that we're still short of singers/choirs/etc. kung interested kayo, contact me!) i asked kng sino psalmist (since fiesta the rsponsorial psalm is sung) and it turns out ako rin!! mygulay, talk about doing lotsa stuff! i asked kng anong kakantahin, and it shocked me all the more!! my morning voice isnt really good for singing you know?! haha;p after a bath and 4songs (during the bath ha!;p) later, i was dressing up all ready while singing and then drinking water and then singing with the CD of Hangad (Atenean choir ). pampagising ng boses para mas madali maka reach ng high and low notes.



will edit this pa.. madaling araw na and i have to rest. kinabit palng yng braces ko kaninang 2:15pm. nung una hndi msakit, ngyng gabi na, sumaskit na yng lower.
by the way, wala na akong YM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! huhuhuhuhu ;( nagka virus ksi computer namin and pumunta yng hands-on at nireformat! .. sabi ng bro ko dahil daw sa dinownload ko na ym at sa yahoo toolbar kaya nagka virus kaya.. hndi ko na maibabalik.. and ym.. huhuhu;(
